Before packing your bags to travel to Vietnam Cambodia and Thailand, or Southeast Asia in general, you’d better make a list of itineraries, or you may end up getting utterly lost. Lucky for you, we have compiled some famous destinations in Thailand so that you can enjoy your trip to the fullest. Let’s go through each of these islands and plan the trip of your lifetime!
What are waiting for you?
Discover the Most Beautiful Island in Thailand
Koh Samui – also known as Samui Island – is a very well-known getaway island right at the Gulf of Thailand. As the island gains traction over the years, it has evolved from a quiet resort to a cosmopolitan hotspot for everyone to enjoy without sacrificing its serenity.
Koh Samui has a variety of accommodations for you to choose from, as it houses such a large range of visitors. Once you take a look at the outline of the island, you will be able to spot an array of stays that ranges from budget beachside bungalows to luxurious resorts with various relaxation services.
There are currently three main beach regions on Koh Samui with very distinct characteristics, so you can pick your type of adventure. If you want to take a break from the hustling pace of city life, Lamai Beach should be best. In case you want to enjoy a variety of activities, you can head to Chaweng Beach. And last but not least, for a unique appeal, place your reservations at Bophut’s Fisherman’s Village!
Another island you should visit while you are already in the Gulf of Thailand is Koh Tao. It is 55km away from the aforementioned Koh Samui, and its name “Turtle Island” reflects on its specialty pretty well. At Koh Tao, you are going to enjoy the clear blue water through scuba diving along the colorful coral reefs and watch sea creatures!
The island shares a characteristic with Koh Samui in their accommodations, as it provides a little something for everyone who arrives. Aside from hotels and resorts, the nightlife of Koh Tao is also extremely lively, especially on the F&B front. Nonetheless, Koh Tao is definitely the idyllic paradise you want to head to for a few-day stay!
Now that we have left the Gulf of Thailand, we can head south and visit the ever-elusive Phuket Island – the largest off the coast of Thailand. Aside from its girth, it also claims the fame as the first island people recommend when mentioning the Land of Smiles.
You will be able to expect everything from crystal clear water, soft white sand, a wide range of activities to enjoy, and a whole lot of good food to snack on in Phuket. People flock to the island both for adventure and for relaxation, so you will never find yourself tired or bored within the bounds of Phuket.
Once you have arrived at the island, we definitely recommend visiting Patong beach or Kata beach for a crispy tan. After that, you can start exploring Phuket town and take a peek into the history that resides within the heart of the island.
If you are feeling a little more adventurous, snorkeling and diving will allow you to take in the full underwater beauty of Phuket. We promise you: you will leave the beach missing the sound of waves crashing above your head and the sight of light gently moving across your fingers in the water! Because there is so much to do in Phuket (and we haven’t brushed on half of the destinations on this list), we recommend you come to the island with a guide or at least a brochure for Indochina tour packages.
KOH PHA NGAN
Right from the Gulf, you can also visit Koh Phangan by ferry. The island’s fame mostly relies on its abundance of jungles and wildlife, its smooth beaches with white sand, and various diving sites that you cannot take your eyes off. However, you will not want to willy-nilly come to the island without plans beforehand, solely for two reasons:
- When you time your visits around New Year’s Eve, you will be able to catch yourself in the yearly and legendary Full Moon Party and Black Moon party. You will be able to feast on Thailand’s finest seafood and delicacies, drink exquisite booze, rave to tasteful music and have a fun time within the bounds of the festivities!
- If you want to be able to enjoy various beach activities in Haad Rin in peace, you should not visit when the Moon Parties are going on, or you will be swarmed by people! Haad Rin has a lot of fun things to get physical in, such as beach football, beach volleyball, watersports, and even bikini contests!
No matter if you’re heading straight from beyond the sea or coming back from the Vietnam tour holidays, be sure to time your arrival to Koh PhaNgan properly, and you will surely enjoy your stay!
Last and not least is Koh Lanta, not because the island is any less attractive than the other islands on the list. Instead of the bustling energy its siblings provide, this cluster of 52 islands wishes to provide weary travelers with ambient peace and natural relaxation. For this, Koh Lanta is definitely a destination worth noting, thanks to its proximity to Phuket.
ather than boasting its man-made creations, Koh Lanta tries its best to preserve the unspoiled nature for travelers to rest in. If you are a lover of natural sceneries, Koh Lanta Yai – Koh Lanta’s biggest island – can give you endless misty islands to stare into and gentle clear beaches for you to dip your feet into.
Although the islands have many exclusive and luxurious resorts, what people usually resort to while they’re in Koh Lanta is the pure scene crafted by the hands of Mother Nature!
Thailand is home to many gorgeous islands – a recurring theme in anyone’s destination list when they travel to Vietnam Cambodia and Thailand. We advise you not to miss out on these amazing spots in the Eastern Sea, and we wish you a safe and wholesome traveling experience!
